Traveling around the world is amazing, don’t get me wrong, but nothing quite compares to going home. For me, that is Greenville. If you’re lucky, you find a home not always where you come from. Growing up in California, I never expected to end up in Greenville, South Carolina. Every thing is different. From the people to the food, it was a culture shock to say the least. Greenville has been ranked as one of the top ten growing cities in the US according to CNN money. However, it grows not only in size, but also in charm. Going out with friends and exploring Greenville is what made me fall in love with it. It is truly a one-of-a-kind place. After two years with Greenville as my home, here is what you need to know!
Destination: Greenville, South Carolina
It’s So Green!
First: There is so much to do outside in Greenville! The best weekends can be spent taking a bike ride or simply a walk along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The trail leads all the way from Travelers Rest to downtown Greenville. This 19 mile stretch through all of Greenville is ranked as the third best urban trail by USA Today. My friends and I hop on right by campus and bike downtown for food and fun!
Second: As basic as it may sound, nothing compares to walking around downtown for shopping and food. Downtown is home to unique boutiques and a variety of places to visit you can’t miss. My personal favorite is Bevello, a small boutique home to an endless supply of cute clothes and accessories.
Third: A picnic in Falls Park is perfect for a Sunday afternoon in Greenville. The raging waters and suspension bridge make for a scenic date with friends or someone special. A stroll around the park alone will make you fall in love with Greenville.
More Than Just Greens!
Downtown Greenville is home to over 100 restaurants to choose from and you can’t go wrong! Some of my personal favorites are even closer to Furman University in Travelers Rest.
Tandem is a creperie that will make you want to ride a bike and sing French music. Their motto of “together is best” is the perfect motto for Sunday brunch with friends. Their crepes and lattes melt in your mouth. The “fiesta crepe” itself will keep you coming back every weekend, it does it to me!
Sidewall Pizza Company is home to fresh pizza and an even fresher environment. Their casual half indoor, half outdoor seating with twinkle lights gives the perfect atmosphere for either a casual night out or a nice dinner date.
Spill the Beans located in downtown Greenville will never disappoint. You get to choose your flavor of ice cream PLUS any of over 50 topping options to have mixed in. Yes, completely mixed in! It is so unique and the perfect pair for an evening stroll in the park.
Greenville, South Carolina may not be where I was born and raised, but it is home. I have found my best friends that have become my family. To me, that is truly where home is. If you don’t believe me, take a look for yourself!
